LEDBURY’S junior and mini section has been announced as a finalists in the Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards.

Five other clubs from across the country are also in the running for the prestigious prize.

The winner will be revealed at an awards ceremony held at Twickenham on Wednesday, August 29.

A spokesman from Ledbury said: “It was a complete surprise to learn that the club had reached the final after being nominated by one of the club’s junior section coaches.

“It is a ringing endorsement of all the invaluable hard work of the 130 plus volunteers who give up their time and effort to foster such a vibrant club, helping in coaching, managing, safeguarding and inspiring a membership of around 300 junior players.

“To reach the last six is a major achievement in its own right, the icing on the cake will be to ensure that, to borrow a recent sporting theme, rugby is coming home to Ledbury.”

Wet weather left Ledbury Cricket Club frustrated last weekend.

Ledbury’s first XI were 79-3 against Almeley at Orlham Lane in Marches League Division Two when rain stopped play while the seconds were not in Division Three action.

Saturday sees the firsts visit Luctonians and the seconds host Canon Frome (both 1pm).
