WORCESTER Warriors’ Jean-Baptiste Bruzulier is relishing his scrum-half battle with former Wales international Dwayne Peel in tomorrow night’s Championship play-off final at Bristol (7.45pm).

As a rugby-mad youngster growing up in Cardiff, Bruzulier says he used to look up to 33-year-old Peel.

Now Bruzulier, 22, will get his chance on the same stage as Peel, who has won 76 Test caps for Wales and played three times for the British and Irish Lions.

“When I was young, I always looked up to him (Peel),” said Bruzulier, who progressed through the Welsh youth set-up.

“Dwayne was the big star in Wales when I was a boy and we all used to look up to him.

“It will be weird playing against him but it will be a great experience.

“Hopefully, I can step up to the mark.

"I also went to Filton College with Mitch Eadie, who plays for Bristol and is a good friend of mine.”

Bruzulier is poised to start only his second Championship game for Warriors in the opening leg at Ashton Gate.

First-choice scrum-halves Charlie Mulchrone (broken foot) and Jonny Arr (suspended) are unavailable, with 17-year-old academy product Jamie Shillcock likely to be Bruzulier’s deputy.

Bruzulier captained Worcester to British and Irish Cup success last month and played 75 minutes of Warriors’ 38-15 play-off semi-final second leg victory against London Scottish.

“To be honest, I never expected to be involved in the final,” said Bruzulier.

“I have been lucky enough to step in and it’s unfortunate for Jonny and Charlie because they have been outstanding.

“I wasn’t at the London Scottish game when Charlie broke his foot and Jonny had his yellow card.

“I was at the birthday party of my best friend’s son in Cardiff and I read what happened on Twitter.

“I was due to play Sevens the next day but the club let me know I would now be needed for the first team.

“I did have a change of attitude as I knew that stepping up to the first team was going to be massive.

“I haven’t really played much first team rugby this year but to be involved in the final is special.”

Bruzulier, who arrived at Sixways in the summer from Le Pays d'Aix Rugby Club in France, believes the shoot-out with Bristol for a place in the Premiership will be a tight affair.

“Bristol beat us twice in the regular season but I think it’s going to come down to a penalty or a kick and we are ready for it,” said Bruzulier.

“We are not under pressure – we are going to go out there to enjoy it.

“Against Scottish, we enjoyed our rugby.

“We have got to play our own game in the first leg before returning home to a full house and the last 80 minutes at Sixways – it’s going to incredible.”
