WORCESTER Warriors will turn to Warwick School student Jamie Shillcock for their crucial Greene King IPA Championship play-off semi-final against London Scottish tomorrow (7.45pm).

The 17-year-old Warriors academy scrum-half has been named amongst the replacements after Charlie Mulchrone (broken foot) and Jonny Arr (three-week suspension) were ruled out of the match.

And should Shillcock come on during the match, he will become the youngest player to play in a Championship play-off match at 17 years and 280 days old.

Shillcock, who has represented the England Under 18 Counties and the England Under 19 Academies, was drafted into training earlier this week after being informed of his inclusion by Warwick School Director of Rugby Mark Nasey during a lesson.

He quickly made the trip to Sixways to link-up with his teammates as they prepare for their biggest match of the season.

Shillcock said: "I was sitting in the classroom when Mr Nasey came to see me and said Warriors had called me in to train with the squad ahead of Friday's match.

"I was really surprised but I soon put my rugby head on and started to focus on the task at hand.

"It's a dream come true to be named in the matchday squad and I'm really looking forward to the experience of playing a part in such a big game.”

Shillcock, who is a school prefect, has been a star performer for Warwick School over the last two years and off the field he is currently preparing for exams in Business Studies, History and PE.

He is also a key member of Warriors' Warwick School Junior Academy Centre, where he receives one-to-one coaching with the club's academy coaches.

Warriors academy manager Mark Hewitt said: "Jamie has close contact time with Warriors coaches and he has progressed enormously over the last year.

"He is a young lad but has maturity beyond his years and this is a fantastic opportunity for him to experience the emotions that sit alongside being involved in such a big game so we wish him the best of luck.”

Warwick School director of rugby Nasey added: "Being called into the squad for Friday's game is fantastic news for Jamie and his family, as well as Warwick School and the Warriors academy.

"It is a wonderful example of the pathways that exist for talented and committed young men and that is down to the link between Warriors and Warwick School.

"Jamie not only has the requisite physical capabilities to play the game at the highest level but his hard work, commitment and perseverance suggest he has the ability to make a career out of the game.”
