WARRIORS hooker Dan George admits he has the perfect distraction from the inevitable drama which will unfold over the next two months.

George scored a try and gave a strong display as Warriors recorded a 35-5 victory at Doncaster Knights to lift the British and Irish Cup last Friday at Castle Park.

Warriors are second in the Greene King IPA Championship table with three regular league fixtures remaining before the promotion play-offs.

“My son, Alfie, was born in February, so I have been spending a lot of time driving up and down the M40 to spend as much time as possible with my family in London,” said George.

“I have certainly been playing more rugby than last year, but it is a tough fight because we have some strong hookers in the squad, and my playing time has been a bit limited recently.

“But that has not worked too badly because it has allowed me to be with my family more, and the club have been fantastic about that.”

Swansea-born George arrived at Sixways in the summer after a season at Gloucester.

He previously plied his trade with Llanelli, Carmarthen Quins and London Welsh, represented Wales from under 16 to under 21 level and captained the under 19s during the IRB Junior World Championships in South Africa in 2005.

George has played 18 times for Warriors this term and scored two tries.

“As a team we put a massive emphasis on the London Scottish game which we won 56-15,” he said.

“We know they are going to be in contention come the knockout stages, so to put 50 points on them as we did was a big statement looking ahead.

“We didn’t start brilliantly, but we really grew into the game and scoring eight tries against a strong side like them was brilliant.”
