A PROMISING young duo played for the Independent Schools Lambs’ national under 11s side.

Ledbury half-back pairing Harry Cox, who attends The Downs School, Malvern, and Joe Randall, of The Elms School, Malvern, have returned from a successful tour of Dublin.

The team remained unbeaten in their three-match tour in Ireland with victories over Terenure, Clontarf and Barnhall on the way.

Cox plays for Ledbury at scrum-half and Randall at fly-half.

Meanwhile, Malvern number eight Max Hill helped England Counties under 18s to a last-gasp 13-11 win over Irish Clubs under 18s at Gloucestershire’s Hartpury College.

The Worcester Sixth Form College student was part of the team who snatched victory in a thrilling finale to the international triangular festival.

Ireland appeared to have won the game when Luke Carty landed a penalty five minutes from time to open up a three-point lead.

But England showed composure and character under pressure to win the game at the death with a try from Myles Bean with just 59 seconds remaining.

The win gave England’s lead coach Dave Reed the perfect retirement present.

There was little to split the two sides who had each beaten a France regional academies under 18 team in their opening matches of the successful festival.

Spirited scores either side of half-time were not enough to prevent Bromyard succumbing to a 29-10 home defeat to promotion-hopefuls Cannock in Midlands Four West (North).

John Parker and Rob Legge both powered over the Cannock line for tries but, with the Staffordshire side’s forwards dominating, Bromyard were always playing catch-up.

They wrap up their league season with a visit from basement club Tenbury tomorrow and then tackle Clee Hill on Tuesday in the Champions League Floodlit Trophy final (7.30pm).
