MALVERN finished their North Midlands Under 17s League campaign with a 28-22 win at Ledbury.

The Spring Lane side are runners-up and progress into the national competition.

Poor tackling let in Ledbury for Dan Smith’s early converted try under the posts.

Malvern replied when number eight Jack Curtis burst through and Dan Batty converted into a swirling wind.

The same duo made it 14-7 while Ledbury’s Marcus Letori was sin-binned.

Ledbury bagged an unconverted try through Ben Stevens with a catch-and-drive from a line-out.

Malvern forwards appeared in control in the second period.

Callum Jacob, Glen Potter, Aaron Overton, James Richards, Joe Wolfe, Sam Perkins and Ben Richards took the game to Ledbury up front.

Malvern’s power and pace led to a try for Batty, who also converted.

Another fine move put Ollie Grinnell through to score with Batty again converting.

But Ledbury’s influential winger Ellis Ward ran in two unconverted tries to leave the visitors hanging on.
