MALVERN brothers Max and Ted Hill are both vying for places in the England youth set-up.

The products of Malvern’s junior section at Spring Lane have been selected for the Midlands, which is the final step before being capped by England at age-group level.

Max, a pupil at Worcester Sixth Form College, played his rugby through the age groups at Malvern, being coached by his father Vince and former club captain Gareth Richards.

Both coaches were members of the Malvern side who climbed through the leagues in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Back row Max was in the under 17s side who won the North Midlands League last season and has now moved on to the Worcester Warriors ACE programme, playing for the under 18s and Cavaliers sides.

Having played for the county and North Midlands sides, he now goes to Loughborough to take part in a tournament that will decide which players are put forward for selection for the England under 18s age group.

Brother Ted, a pupil at the River School, Worcester, has also played all his rugby at Malvern.

He was coached through the age groups by Stuart Lucas and Byron Williams, who were both in the first team at Spring Lane.

Ted, who is also a back-row forward, has trodden the same path as his brother, captaining the county, North Midlands and Warriors under 16s.

He goes forward to a tournament in Wellington where the England under 16s squad will be selected.

The teenagers said they were extremely grateful to the Malvern club and especially the coaches as neither played rugby at school.
