COACH Sam Vesty wants his Worcester Cavaliers side to secure a home semi-final in the Aviva A-League by making it a clean sweep of wins when they take on Bristol United next Monday.

Cavaliers need just one point against Bristol at Cribbs Causeway to secure the top spot in the Northern Conference and seal a home semi-final tie at Sixways.

Worcester made it five wins out of five on Monday night after a 59-11 win against Newcastle Falcons, who are also aiming for a semi-final spot.

There were a number of star performances including winger Josh Drauniniu, who scored two tries and was a constant threat to Falcons’ defence.

Vesty admitted: “There was a lot riding on the game and that’s the pleasing thing — how the boys responded.

“We really turned the screw after the first 15 minutes and played some good rugby and we kept getting on the front foot and scoring tries.

“Josh was fantastic and he took his chances well. His ability to beat someone with the ball is incredible and he did a lot of good, as did a number of others.”

With Cavaliers having won all five of their Aviva A-League games, and having beaten Oxford University in a friendly last month, Vesty believes the young squad have developed well during this first half of the season.

He added: “The A-League is about expressing yourself and developing. The way this group have won every game, just goes to show how far they’ve come.”
