WORCESTER Warriors’ director of rugby Dean Ryan insists that people should not read too much into his team selections.

Fly-half Ryan Lamb is expected to make his first appearance of the season in tomorrow’s home clash against Bedford Blues (7.45pm).

The performances of Warriors’ youngsters and fringe players in the British and Irish Cup programme have given Ryan plenty to ponder.

But Ryan said: “It’s not difficult to pick the squad because I have still got a plan of who I want to play.

“We are not in a play-off mode and every selection should not be read as to where somebody is seen in the pecking order.

“Some selections are about giving people an opportunity and some are about seeing different combinations but we are now picking from a much stronger basis from week to week.

“We have to be sharp and we have got some individuals coming back who have not played a huge amount and we are not a million miles away from having strength in depth for selection.

“I have no doubts that scrum-half Jean-Baptiste Bruzulier will play a part over the next three weeks. I want to see him in a different environment and that’s a reward for his efforts.”

n Warriors full-back Chris Pennell has been named Sports Personality of the Year at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Awards.

The 27-year-old saw off competition from Beth Crumpton, Claire Cashmore, Moeen Ali and Sascha Kindred to pick up the award.
