THE Championship XV overturned an 11-point half-time deficit as they defeated Canada 28-23 at Sixways yesterday.

Tries from Kyle Gilmour and Gordon McRorie along with eight points from the boot of James Pritchard had given Canada an 18-7 lead at the break.

But the game turned on its head within 10 minutes of the restart as Jack Tovey and Marco Mama touched down for the Championship XV.

McRorie’s second try of the afternoon put the Canadians back in front late on before Championship XV replacement James Phillips won it for the hosts.

Warriors lock James Percival enjoyed a fine game in his role of captain, while prop Ryan Bower and scrum-half Jonny Arr were also impressive.

Canada took a 5-0 lead in the fourth minute, but the Championship team went ahead three minutes later as Mark Bright of London Scottish charged over with Plymouth’s Lawrence Rayner adding the conversion.

The Championship XV started the second-half strongly with a try two minutes following the restart through Bristol’s Jack Tovey, with Rayner converting.

Canada went down to 14 men when hooker Ray Barkwill was shown a yellow card in the 46th minute and the Championship took advantage to move 21-18 ahead thanks to a try from Marco Mama of Bristol and Rayner’s conversion.

McRorie scampered over for his second try of the game but Phillips bundled his way over, with Kieran Hallett adding the extras with 10 minutes to go.
