MALVERN president David Robins has hailed tomorrow’s crunch Midlands One West clash at Kenilworth as “the crossroads of our season”.

Drop-threatened Malvern are in desperate need of a victory in a bid to stave off back-to-back relegations.

Having fallen through the National League Three South West trapdoor last term, the third-from-bottom Spring Lane side are in danger of completing an unwanted double this term.

However, the remaining fixtures of the current campaign are in Malvern’s favour, but Robins insists a win in Warwickshire this weekend is vital.

“I look upon our match at Kenilworth as one we have to win if we are going to stay in this division,” Robins said.

“A good result would take a lot of pressure off us and we still have to play the bottom two sides – Berkswell and Balsall at home and Market Bosworth away.

“So, as far as having a fighting chance of staying up is concerned, we have to look at those facts and say we have an opportunity to save our season.

“That will have to start with a win tomorrow.

“It is an away game, but we are certainly capable of beating Kenilworth, I am confident. We have a strong side and a full back-line for the first time in a while as we have struggled with injuries and unavailabilities.

“Tomorrow’s game is the crossroads of our season and it is a massive match from the point of view of the league table.

“We are third from bottom, which is in the relegation places, and there is realistically only one team we can overtake, Old Laurentians.

“They are five points clear of us, but we have a game in hand on them and they still have to play the top three sides in the table, starting with a trip to second-placed Burton tomorrow.”

Robins added: “No disrespect to Kenilworth, but the game probably means more to us as they are safe in mid-table and can’t go up or down.

“The stars are in the right position, but it is a question of whether our team respond in the right way and I believe they will.

“We were bitterly disappointed to only get two points from losing 37-34 at home to Hereford last time out, we deserved to get the full five points.

“If we can reproduce that kind of performance this weekend, we will be fine.”
