Unbeaten streak over
2:36pm Friday 18th October 2013 in Rugby
LEDBURY first XV slipped to their first Midlands Three West (South) defeat of the season, losing 22-19 at league-leaders Cheltenham North.
The home team established an early lead with two unconverted tries from their large, strong-running forwards.
The visitors gradually worked their way back into contention and fly-half George Bennion reduced the deficit with a penalty. An excellent forward drive from a line-out resulted in winger Nick Frith touching down, with Bennion adding the extras.
Another Bennion penalty put Ledbury ahead, before a converted try by the hosts restored their lead.
Cheltenham also scored a try from the last move of the first-half.
Bennion’s third penalty brought the visitors to within six points, but a yellow card for a Cheltenham front-rower led to uncontested scrums, which eased the pressure on the hosts.
Bennion kicked his fourth penalty with five minutes left but Ledbury had to settle for a losing bonus point.
Ledbury travel to Edwardians in the second round of the Midlands section of the National Senior Vase tomorrow.
