Novak Djokovic came from behind to beat Adrian Mannarino in the second round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, while third seed Alexander Zverev was eliminated by Robin Haase.

Djokovic, the 10th seed, recovered from losing the opening set as he saw off Frenchman Mannarino 4-6 6-2 6-1 in two hours and six minutes.

The Serbian Wimbledon champion was joined in round three by Haase after he produced a surprise with a turnaround of his own.

The Dutchman, ranked 55th in the world, advanced at the expense of world number four Zverev by defeating the German 5-7 6-4 7-5.

Nick Kyrgios beat Borna Coric in a fraught near-two-hour match.

The Australian 15th seed overcame his Croatian opponent in a first-set tiebreak 7-6 (7/1) but seemingly lost his momentum as he dropped his serve at the start of the second and slumped to a 6-0 second-set loss.

Kyrios recovered from the midway meltdown, breaking Coric in the fourth game of the third set before serving out the match 6-3.

He will play either Hyeon Chung or Juan Martin del Potro in the round of 16, but the winner will not be decided until Thursday after play was suspended due to rain.

Earlier, defending champion Grigor Dimitrov dropped his opening serve but fought back to defeat Mischa Zverev in a gruelling 7-6 (7/5) 7-5 contest, and Stan Wawrinka eased to a 6-4 6-4 win over Kei Nishikori.

There were also second-round wins for number seven seed Marin Cilic, sixth seed Kevin Anderson and Russia’s Karen Khachanov.
