Late winner in seven-goal cup thriller

SEVEN ALLSTARS 4, CROSS KEYS 3.

AN 87th minute winner sealed the Malvern League's Norman Simmons Cup for Seven Allstars.

With both teams also contesting the league title and their two clashes this season finishing 2-2 and 4-4, a close game was expected.

That was certainly the case as a sizeable crowd at Ledbury Town FC saw Seven Allstars snatch a very late winner to retain the trophy.

Allstars had the best of the early play and came close through Jaime Welch.

He soon atoned for this miss, in the 9th minute he raced onto a fine through-ball by Scott Roberts and calmly slotted the ball past Craig Humphries in The Cross Keys goal. Seven Allstars were on top and doubled their advantage in the 14th minute when a free-kick 35 yards out by Tim Rutherford was headed home by Scott Roberts.

Cross Keys' Lee Hooper scored in the 43rd minute through a deflected 25 yard free-kick.

But Jamie Welch then made it 3-1 early in the second period. Ollie Endacott pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute.

Keys eventually equalised in the 76th minute when Rob Cullen's corner found Andy Fletcher powering in a header in a crowded goalmouth.

But Allstars sealed the cup final win in the 87th minute through a counter-attack which was finished off by Scott Roberts.
