Round-up
An ultimate giantkilling
WHILST the senior side have struggled this season, Malvern Town's youth team capped off an impressive campaign with a 13-0 cup final win.
Joe Kings led from the front with five goals in a total domination for his side in the Herefordshire FA Giantkillers County Youth Cup showpiece against Llandrindod Wells.
But despite the final score, Wells had started the brighter of the two sides and even had a goal disallowed for offside early on.
But Town soon got in their stride, dominating proceedings including a red-hot nine-minute spell in the first-half which saw them score five goals. Malvern were seven up at the interval through goals from Kings, Tom Lacey and Tom Poole.
It was the same story in the second-half as Malvern ran riot, with further goals for Pool and Kings.
Peter Treadgold and Ryan Clarke got in on the act to complete the scoring in this rout, held at Pegasus Juniors last Thursday night.
The victory is the icing on the cake for Town who are looking to finish in the top four of the Midland Floodlit Youth League.
They have also developed players this term to some success, with 17-year-old Phil Harris having signed for Chasetown.
Delighted boss Chris Smith said: "It was a totally professional performance.
"We got the ball down and played some good football. It was a team performance, there were no individual solo efforts.
"We've been working hard all season on that, playing one or two touch football.
"People might think it was a mismatch but it wasn't really. They beat a team out of our
division 3-2 in the semi-finals. There was nothing between us going into the match.
"The only difference was a nine minute period in the first-half when we scored five goals.
"We've had a good season. We've got three games left but we're probably going to finish in the top four.
"We want to develop good lads and we're already bringing in players for next year."
