Howell dominates pack to go season unbeaten

JASON Howell made it a hat-trick of blue course title wins in the Malvern and District Orienteers League, finishing the season unbeaten.

Howell had travelled to Inverness the previous weekend where he finished fourth in the British Orienteering Championships men's 35 class.

Castlemorton Common on Saturday was bathed in glorious sunshine which off-set the often muddy conditions on courses set by Neill Williamson.

Jason's nearest rival, second placed Chris McSweeney, of Powick, was perhaps regretting his outing to Cannock Chase for the mountain bike orienteering event earlier that morning.

Richard Davies completed the league in third place and top woman was Lindsay Macmillan of Malvern.

Things were much more interesting on the green course where Paul Baxter capped off his first season in the sport by winning the title on the last day over top boy James Wilkinson of Castlemorton.

Top girl Susan Ford took third place and MADO co-ordinator Lynden Hartmann was top woman in overall fourth place.

Alison Wilkinson won the orange, beating her mother Julia into fourth place with Sarah and Tom Creber in second place and David Creber and Jacob Herbert in third.

On the yellow, Mary Herbert and Rosie Creber took first place with the Pemberton family second and Rhys Gemmell top boy in third place.

The presentation will take place at a social event on Old Hills on June 21.
