Round-up
Eastnor storm to four wicket opening victory
REDDITCH V
EASTNOR.
EASTNOR made an excellent start to their Crusader Worcestershire League Division One fixtures with a comfortable four wicket win, after winning an important toss and fielding first.
The Eastnor seam attack kept a tight rein on the early batsmen. Russell Gailey (28) and Luke Davies (22) gave the innings a solid start, but both fell to Faisal. Jack Williams came in at number five to form the backbone of the innings, making 81 before perishing trying to lift the scoring rate late in the innings.
Eastnor fielded well, taking a number of good catches, including two for young wicketkeeper Jamie Onions, plus two smart run-outs. Redditch lost their final wicket in the penultimate over with Faisal (4-51 off 13 overs) and Shahid (3-16 off 10.2) doing the main damage.
Skipper Jabran, playing his first game in 18 months following injury, got the Eastnor reply away to a flying start. When he departed for 18, Adeel took up the challenge. After striking his first ball for four he went on to make an undefeated 78, including a couple of big sixes.
Eastnor secured the win with more than 10 overs to spare, with Shahid (23), Atiq (18), Faisal (14) and Ishtiaq (10no) making useful contributions.
The second team fixture against Old Elizabethans 4th was called off due to the waterlogged Clenchers Mill Lane pitch.
This week Eastnor face Stourbridge in Division one, whilst the second team take on Rushwick in Division three.
