Hill at the double
Burlish U11s 0,
Newtown Sports U11s 2
NEWTOWN came away from Burlish with a fine victory with two goals in the second-half.
Newtown started the game well and created a number of chances, but they were unable to break a resolute Burlish defence.
Sam Daffin and Ashley Hill both tested the home keeper, but he managed to keep the shots out.
Hill gave the visitors the lead after the interval when Daffin won Newtown a free-kick just outside the Burlish area.
Having fired Newtoown in the lead, Hill headed home his second of the match when he rose to connect with Ben Kite's flighted corner.
Shane Abel and man-of-the-match Ross Mulka had good games at the back for the visitors, while Joe Crews kept his sixth clean sheet in 10 games. Daffin and Kite also impressed for Newtown.
Tomorrow, Newtown host Malvern Town Wanderers (10.30am) in the quarter-finals of the Phillip Jeynes Memorial Cup. Meet at 10am.
WELLAND U10s 0,
NEWTOWN COLTS U10s 1
SUPER Sam Bray produced a moment of magic as his goal handed Newtown Colts victory in their top-of-the-table clash at Welland.
With two evenly matched teams, the Colts midfield of Anders Wilson, Alex Doyle and Fraser Crump were working extremely hard to control the game.
And the breakthrough came when Bray won the ball on the halfway line and went on a mazy run.
The youngster easily went passed two Welland defenders before slotting the ball beyond the advancing keeper.
Colts continued to create chances but they couldn't increase their lead.
Welland nearly took advantage of the visitors attacking style as they looked to hit Newtown on the counter-attck, however, Elliot Crump produce a fine stop to deny the hosts.
Colts had some great chances in the second-half to make the game safe with Bray having a shot crash off the inside of the post, while Crump saw his strike turned behind and a superb cross from Alex Doyle found Anthony Eyles at the far post but he fired wide.
Ross Harness and Simon Wilks played well in midfield and the back two, Ben Jackson and Robbie Watts, having an outstanding game Colts never looked like conceding.
Newtown Sports U8s 8 Ombersley U8s 0
Newtown under-eights went on the rampage as they ruthlessly dismantled Ombersley.
Within a few minutes, Newtown took the lead when Adam Dickinson tapped in Lewis Hill's corner.
Shortly afterwards, Matthew Brookes unleashed a tremendous shot into the top corner of the net, with the goalkeeper routed to the spot, to give Newtown a 2-0 half time lead.
The second half became an onslaught on the Ombersley goal.
Brookes was first to take advantage of the generous defending as he scored two goals in two minutes to complete his hat-trick.
Sean McCoullough was then pushed upfront in attempt to score his first goal of the season, and he duly obliged by also scoring two quick goals.
Eli Bray then got in on the act, when he coolly slotted the ball home following a mazy run, and Lewis Hill completed the scoring.
Welland Junior Lions U9s 1, Evesham United U9s 0
THE only result separating these title contenders was Welland's victory at Evesham back in September.
And this second victory puts Welland firmly in control in the Mercian Festival League Division Two and now leaves Evesham needing other teams to help them out.
The first half was predominantly played in midfield.
Jonny Amery carved out a couple of chances with some strong running but he put his first wide and saw the keeper save his second.
At the other end, defenders George Lloyd and Alex Wat-kins let little through and goalkeeper Oliver Latham-Jones only had to collect a long punt forward and stop a weak effort from outside the box.
Sam Whitton freed Henry Dyde on the left but after a good run he fired his shot wide. Amery then set-up Dyde but the keepers legs kept the scores level at half-time.
Welland's goal came early in the second-half when Amery squeezed the ball between defenders and placed a firm shot into the far corner.
Whitton had a long range shot pushed around the post. Evesham won a couple of corners but couldn't capitalise.
Their best chance was late on but it was dealt with by Lloyd who turned it around the post as Latham-Jones waited to catch.
Ledbury Swifts Girls U14s 8, Westfields Girls U14s 1
LEDBURY Swifts Girls started the new year with their unbe-aten record still intact after a tremendous win against a strong Westfields team with a five-star display from Abbey Hemming.
The defence of Imogen Atkins, Hannah Trigg and Jade Powell were well drilled at the back with Sam Berry working hard in midfield.
Ledbury did take their time to get going but once they had settled two goals from Hemming and two from Kayleigh Dummond sent the Swifts into a 4-0 half-time lead.
The second period saw Westfields get back in the game but Hannah McCormack pulled off two great saves.
Ledbury did manage a couple of more chances through Harriet Robins but the ball was cleared on both occasions.
The game was finally sealed when Abbey Hemming went onto score three more goals taking her tally to five and Kayleigh Drummond completed her hat-trick. Westfields battled on and eventually scored a late consolation goal.
