Radar hit back to grab draw
DROITWICH SPA EAGLES 2, MALVERN RADAR 2
PLAYED in just about perfect conditions and on an excellent pitch, Radar's first half display was probably their worst this season but a greatly improved second half show saw them grab a deserved share of the spoils.
Eagles used the large pitch well easily finding plenty of space whereas Radar were struggling to put three passes together, and it was no real surprise when hesitant defending saw Simon Jones nip in unmarked at the far post to side foot the home side into the lead on 15 minutes.
It was almost 2-0 moments later when Jason Griffiths and keeper Steve Green got into a muddle although Green atoned with a good block to deny Andy Hodgetts. Darren Carmell in the home goal was rarely troubled dealing quite comfortably with long range free-kicks from Darren Loader and Mark Taylor and the only half-chance Radar created was in injury time when Stacy Brimmell set up Jason Lloyd, who shot over from 10 yards.
Things improved greatly for Radar in the second half with Nathan Henton cracking in a great goal from 16 yards after exchanging passes with Brimmell and the scores were level on 65 minutes when Marian Halcak used his strength to hold off a defender and place the ball wide of the advancing Carmell.
Radar then had a penalty appeal waved away when Halcak appeared to be bundled over.
Eagles nearly snatched victory when Lee Birt's cross-cum-shot almost caught out Green, who did well to back pedal and palm the ball over the bar.
This Sunday, Radar are at home to Callow End, players meet 9.45am at Victoria Park.
