LONDON Olympic gold medal hopeful Zac Purchase has been given the green light to pursue his dream.

The former Upton Rowing Club member is confirmed in the Great Britain squad, who are looking to build on their most successful Games of the modern era in 2008.

Purchase and Mark Hunter triumphed in the lightweight double scull in Beijing four years ago and aim to repeat that success in London.

The 26-year-old and Essex-born Hunter, who are also the world champions, finished sixth in the most recent World Cup meeting in Switzerland but remain fancied for London honours this summer.

GB Rowing team performance director David Tanner said: “We go to the start in London ready to defend our status as the leading rowing nation from Beijing but we are under no illusion as to how tough winning medals, especially golds, will be.”
