COMMANDING Malvern signed off the National Three Midlands season in style with a 79-3 mauling of Manchester.

The 12-try bonanza helped the Spring Lane side secure their highest position in the league structure with a top-half finish of seventh.

Having seen a steady improvement by their young side, the coaching team led by Liam Hughes can confidently look forward to next season.

Adam Dixon dispatched a penalty to open the scoring but they opted for a scrum from the next one, leading to Tom Longley bagging the first try of the match.

Gary Dipple drifted in for two tries, converted by Dixon, in the opening quarter before Manchester opened their account with a penalty.

However, Malvern hit back with their bonus-point try from Ryan Watkins after the ball was whipped out following a scrum.

The hosts kept the pressure on with Ieuan Mustow speeding through to claim a try which Dixon converted.

Longley then hacked on and chased through to ground the ball for a 41-3 half-time lead.

As the weather worsened, Malvern stuck to the game-plan and it was James Southall’s turn to get on the scoresheet within two minutes of the restart.

Malvern brought all three replacements on and Richard Fleming made his considerable presence felt as he scored.

Longley completed his hat-trick and Dixon’s conversion chalked up the 60 points before Dipple equalled the feat after Jamie Tsang’s break put him away.

With five minutes left, Mustow opened a path for Luke Milton to run through and score.

The full-back then broke to link up with Simon Daws, who could have signed off his playing career at Spring Lane with a try but unselfishly put Dipple in for his fourth of the day.

Dixon’s conversion brought the entertainment to a close.
