MALVERN RFC 10, BURTON 22.

MALVERN RFC fielded a total of 36 players in a trial game of four 20 minute sessions against Burton on Saturday.

It took the first two sessions for Malvern to gel, but by the final quarter some useful patterns emerged to aid the selection team in choosing a squad for the opening warm-up game at Weston-super-Mare this weekend.

Director of Rugby David Robins said: “It was a useful exercise, especially as we have had such an influx of new players in the close season.

“It also gave us an introduction to the new Experimental Law Variations in force this season.

“Burton took the honours in terms of scoring, but the main point of the day was to look at as many players as possible to assess their potential for the upcoming league campaign.

“We travel to Weston on Saturday still short of several players due to holiday commitments, but with two more games after that, we are confident that we will be in good shape for our opening league match at home to Luctonians on September 13.”

Robins also announced another new signing as Cameron Pimlow joins, having previously been at Worcester Academy and Dudley Kingswinford. Robins said: “Cameron is a class act.”
