MALVERN Town reserves were beaten 4-3 on penalties in the West Midlands League Division One Cup after squandering chances to see off Warstones Wanderers in normal time.

The hosts had the lion's share of possession and play, but finally lost out in the shoot-out after the game had finished 2-2 at the end of extra time.

Malvern made the early running and chances fell to Craig Selby, Oliver Reid and Rob Cullen but all three missed the target.

At the other end Warstones' Alex Deakin forced a superb save from keeper Mark Wright and on 21 minutes Kully Cheema chipped the ball into the net for the opening goal.

Thomas then skipped through four challenges and set Cullen off on a 40-yard run before squaring the ball for Selby to equalise.

Deakin restored the visitors' lead with a 55th-minute penalty after Thomas had handled.

Shortly afterwards, Crump delivered a good free-kick which Reid headed inches wide, before Town won a corner from which Selby crambled the ball home for 2-2.

Following no further goals Town lost out to some superb penalties from the visitors for the third time this season.
