WILLOW Haynes recorded the first home-grown junior victory for Upton.

She won the J12 single sculls at Warwick Regatta after beating club-mate Hugh Edney in the final two races following a win over Derwent.

It was tricky to steer on the narrow, bendy course.

Alice Jeffrey had a close win over Bewl Bridge in her women’s single sculls heat before losing to a strong sculler from Warwick in the semi-finals.

Stuart Edney and Debbie Thompson beat Warwick in the mixed double sculls but had a steering issue in the final and ended up in the reeds early on, giving Derby the chance to win.

Sue MacGregor lost out to Warwick in her debut women's primary single sculls race.

The women’s masters B double of Sally Miles and Thompson recovered a three-second handicap and won easily with Avon County hitting the bank.

Archie Tyrell lost to Wycliffe in the J15 single sculls and the girls' J16 double of Daisy Haynes and Annie Darwent faced the adults, beating Warwick in the heats but losing to the same club in the semi-finals.

At the City of Oxford Royal Regatta, Upton's mixed masters D double of Julian and Tabitha Scrivener beat Oxford City over the one-kilometre course and then took the final against Walton.

They raced over the 500m sprint course the next day, losing in the open mixed doubles final to City of Oxford after seeing off Wallingford.

The Scriveners then lost to Bewl Bridge in the mixed masters final following a win over Warwick.

Upton also took a coxed eight and two coxed quads with some Leicester members to Tewkesbury and back for a recreational row.
