NEW member Steve Cox won Malvern Anglers' Derek Evans Trophy match in his first contest with the club.
After a scorching hot week of sunshine there was a dramatic change of temperature and weather with rain and strong winds greeting the anglers on the River Avon at Cropthorne.
A strong downstream wind with a low river level made fishing conditions more difficult for the float-only contest.
Nevertheless, Cox caught a perch along with a number of smaller specimens, chub and roach to produce a winning weight of 5lb 3oz from the uppermost peg on the water.
At the other end of the water, Lee Harman worked hard to accumulate a lot of mainly small chub to finish second with 4-4
while midway down Nigel Bayliss had a similar net of small chub to finish third with 3-3.
Steve Warren caught 2-3, Pete Roberts 1-15, Chris Loveridge 1-10, Ian Goddard 1-6, Dave Harris 1-5, Clive Harman 1-3 and John Shaw 0-9.
