A STORM curtailed The Worcestershire's seniors pairs open.

A field of 152 from 45 clubs contested the better-ball stableford until heavy rain, thunder and lightening ended play.

David Colwell and Kevin O'Connor from Kidderminster won with 45 points on countback from home player Barry Schofield and Bryan Platt from Forest of Arden on the same score.

The next best were also tied with third going to Edward Baker and Jeff Moore from Hagley with 43 ahead of Trevor Simmons and John Wright from The Worcestershire.

The ladies' Daily Mail foursomes went to Sue Birch and Jen Bishop with 42 points from Pauline Savage and Sandra Schofield on 39 and Jenny Nions and Betty Hakes on 38.

Pauline Taylor and Kate Cross both finished with 18 in the nine-hole stableford but were beaten by Marie Willis on 19.

The midweek stableford attracted 76 entries and birdies at the par-five fourth and 17th helped Simon Phillips win Division One with 40.

Chris Hardy was runner-up with 37 and David Milton third on 36

In Division Two, Finlay Milton recorded a birdie and four points at the ninth and finished two clear of Ian Brazier and Ron Gordon who could only be separated on countback.

The Worcestershire lost 4½-3½ at home to The Herefordshire who gained revenge for defeat in May.

There were wins for the hosts by Barry Caswell and Ron Gordon 4&3, Stan Jones and Tim Keates 6&5 and Robin Marling and Terry Cox 3&2 while James Noon and John Williams halved.

But captain Andy Peet and Andrew Whiteley lost 2&1, Brian Piner and John Thompson 2&1, John Davison and Les Facer one-down and Ron Barker and Keith Hitchcock 3&2.

The B team inflicted Evesham's first defeat of the season 4-2 in a reversal of the home result.

Steve Homes won playing on his own while Williams and Dave Turner triumphed 4&2, Andy Price and Alaster Renton two-up and Matt Brookes and Ian Brazier 6&4.

The summer meeting's Division One was won on countback by Lynn Morgan from Martin Lloyd with nett 68.

Scratch golfer Tom Howells was third with 69.

The best score was returned in Division Two by Guy Ralphs with 66.

Despite an eight at the par-five fourth, Ralphs went into the back nine level after handicap and finished it with pars at 16, 17 and 18 to go five-under.

Jamie Stephens followed on 69 and Jim Heyburn on 70.

Gary Torbitt scored 69 for victory in Division Three with Chris Massey and Mel Stocker on 70 for second and third respectively.
