IAN Goddard and Dave Harris won Malvern Anglers' first pairs match of the season.

The combination of a low river level with hot weather resulted in hard fishing conditions for a good turnout at Holdfast.

All competitors struggled for a bite and consequently the weights were disappointing.

Goddard produced the best weight of just 3lb 5oz made up of a skimmer bream with smaller ones.

Harris’ few smaller fish gave the pair a winning total of 4-8.

Not far behind, Lee Harman and Paul Lane totalled 4-1 with a perch of about 1lb being the main feature of the latter's catch.

Other pairs were well behind with some failing to catch.

Steve Warren and Richard Webster managed 1-12, Martin Elston and Frank Edwards 1-11, Dan Cooper and Gary Kennet 1-5.
