BUDDING endurance athletes flocked to Malvern's Go Try A Tri event.

Malvern Youth Triathlon and Malvern Splash teamed up with the British Triathlon Federation and Sports England to deliver the sessions.

Training in the seven weeks leading up were designed by Malvern Triathlon Club’s head youth coach Stewart Whitehead to encourage families to experience triathlon, increase athletic skills and confidence and have fun together.

Local families improved swimming technique, learned how to run correctly to reduce injury and increased their overall cardiovascular fitness on spin bikes.

The finale was the Go Tri event with a 200-metre swim, 6km on spin bikes and a 1.8km run in Priory Park.

The following day Malachi Cashmore, 15, competed at Sandwell in British Triathlon's Regional Junior Series.

It was his first competitive triathlon with a 400m open-water swim, 8km bike ride and 3km run.

Cashmore completed all three disciplines in 34.33 for fourth youth male overall.
