NEWENT'S Glyn Lloyd bowled over the competition with a gold at the British Polio Fellowship 2018 National Indoor Games in Leicester.

He stunned regular winners in the bowls event by coming from nowhere to take top spot with the north-west's Mike Griffiths getting silver.

It was not enough in the end to give the western region team a top-three finish overall and they have been unable to place since coming second in 2016.

The games emerged from the original Stoke Mandeville event and enables people who had polio and now live with post polio syndrome to compete in a range of sports and games.

Qualifiers from regional heats joined competitors from across the UK to compete for individual and team success.

Lloyd’s gold was the highlight at this year’s games for the region as the level of competition gets higher each year.

Julie Round and Mo Page won silver in the dominoes while Bill Burton and Mary Barker came home with 5s and 3s bronze and Wendy Lloyd came fourth in darts (sitting).
