MALVERN'S Northleigh Primary School are celebrating unprecedented sporting success.

Pupils were given certificates at an assembly to acknowledge success outside of school such as training with the county tennis squad and representing Worcestershire in cycling events.

Five pupils were selected to represent Northleigh in the Worcestershire cross-country finals and one progressed to the nationals.

The assembly was attended by Worcester Reds netball team captain Hayley Rudd who presented the school's successful sports teams with trophies and medals.

Rudd said: "It’s really pleasing to see Northleigh promoting sport at all levels which has clearly encouraged positive attitudes to sport and has resulted in amazing success."

In football, the under 11s team were Malvern League and Worcester West champions.

There was Malvern League joy for the under nines and sevens too.

In netball, the under 11s team were Malvern League runners-up and Worcester West champions with the B side third in the latter competition.

The under 11s athletics team were third in the Worcestershire finals.

Clare Parsons' daughter Abby was presented with a certificate by the under 11s football team who voted her player of the season.

She said: “My daughter has been grinning from ear to ear since she came in from school.

"There is a really positive atmosphere at Northleigh at the moment and parents regularly comment on the tremendous progress the school is making in all areas."

Headteacher Stuart Busby, who was appointed at Northleigh last September, said: “I’m thrilled to see our children getting the recognition they deserve.

"As a school we strive to develop positive attitudes to learning in all areas.

"This year we have provided additional opportunities for all our pupils to engage in sport.

"A large number have attended gym and dance festivals, watched netball and basketball matches and scaled our climbing wall.

"As a community we have enjoyed celebrating our sporting success and will continue to promote a desire to achieve in all areas of school life.”

Talented Malvern golfer and hockey player Lucy Walton will present awards at Northleigh’s summer celebration assembly.

It will be attended by two teachers from Northleigh’s partner school Darajani in Tanzania who shared news of the sporting success at their own assembly.
