SUNDAY sees the first of four cup final days for the Mercian Fortis Junior League.

The seven-a-side matches start at 10.30am when the boys’ under nines finalists Leigh and Bransford Badgers Dynamo play Worcester Colts for the George Goode Memorial Shield.

At 12.15pm more under nines do battle when Kidderminster Athletic Hawks face Wilden Villages FC for the Vin Furlong Memorial Cup.

Then at 2pm West Worcester Youth will play Kempsey Colts in the under 10s final and at 3.45pm Kempsey Colts Raiders tackle Nunnery Wood Colts Invaders in the Mercian League Shield.

In line with Football Association policy, the age groups will share the trophies and both will receive identical mementos at the end of the games.

League secretary and vice-chairman Ray Wright said: “It’s always exciting for players, officials, parents and those of us who run the league when we get the finals days under way each year.

“We’re really grateful to the committee of Malvern Town Football Club for letting us once again play our finals at the HDanywhere Community Stadium in Malvern.

“Their support for what we do for the young people who play for the teams in our league is tremendous and very much appreciated by everyone involved.”

Admission is £2 with concessions for £1.

Wright added: “Everyone is welcome to come along and see these games. They will be an excellent example of youth football in this region.

“We will be holding our usual raffles during every game for a selection of excellent prizes.

“The admission costs and the proceeds of the raffles will help us to pay for the trophies we provide every year.

“This year we will be spending a significant four-figure sum on trophies and mementos for the cups and the league winners and the young people we know will in the main hold onto their trophies for the rest of their lives.

“These are very special events and they are long remembered by those participating in them.”
