A TRIO of girls brought records tumbling at the Ledbury Swimming Club Championships.

Emily Goggins, nine, Eve Watson, 15, and Molly Schofield, 13, all triumphed in their races and broke long-standing club records at the same time.

Watson started the trend by breaking a 20-year-old club record in the 100m freestyle, swimming a time of one minute and 95 hundredths of a second.

She was close to being the first female swimmer ever to go under one minute at the club.

Schofield, Goggins and Watson all then broke club records in the 50m butterfly.

Watson swam the fastest female time ever in the club for the event.

Schofield was able to congratulate Goggins on the podium as she broke her record from 2013.

The championships saw nearly 100 swimmers from the club compete over five races at the Ledbury pool.

Competitive swimmers ranged in age from seven to 16 years.

The club record girls were in good company with 80 per cent of Ledbury’s swimmers achieving personal best times and 11 gaining county qualifying times.

Chairman Steve Watson said: “Many of our swimmers are fresh from an amazing five-day training camp in Spain and their performances showed the progress they have made.

"It was thrilling to see the swimmers breaking records and qualifying for those much-desired county times.

"As ever, I want to thank all the officials, parents and swimmers for making this such a fantastic event.”

Ledbury swimmers are now in intensive training ready for the Hereford open meet towards the end of November with another chance to claim county qualifying times.

Training takes place every day of the week in either Malvern or Ledbury.
