LEADONITES under 15s won 55-45 at WBA D Squad in the YBL LTG Cup round two.

After the previous week’s win at Bournville Bears in the league, it was another trip up the M5 this time to Sandwell Academy opposite The Hawthorns.

Josh Spriggs won the tip-off and Leadonites were soon in front through a deuce from team captain Michael French.

WBA came straight back to take the lead which was their only of the match as JJ Hobson replied with a three-pointer.

The strength and height superiority paid dividends for Leadonites as the offensive presence of Spriggs and defensive power of Teo Calvo-Whitelegg pushed the Ledbury club on to a 15-12 lead.

With Alessio Miccio and Finlay Chalkley joining Spriggs, Hobson and French on the second-quarter scoresheet, Leadonites were 29-19 ahead at half-time.

WBA came out in the second half with renewed purposed and set about cutting into the lead so much that Leadonites coach Ian Robb called a time-out to stem their flow of play.

The ploy worked and though the quarter was lost WBA could only pull back one point from the deficit with the three-quarter time score at 41-32 to Leadonites.

A similar time-out from Robb in the fourth quarter put the boys back on track with offensive ball movement.

A basket from French (6 points), two apiece from Hobson (15) and Calvo-Whitelegg (6) and three more from Spriggs on his way to a game-high 20 saw Leadonites home despite a late three-pointer from WBA.
