IAN Goddard took advantage of drawing the same peg where he previously claimed a record-breaking catch as he clinched the Newtown Shield.
With the River Severn at Holdfast carrying a few inches of fresh water after rain, Malvern Anglers were optimistic of catches.
Results showed good weights of bream for anglers from some pegs while others were pestered by small eels that had shown up in numbers for the first time this summer. Using swimfeeder with maggot bait, Goddard accumulated several bream of up to five pounds for a winning weight of 30-2-0.
Dave Harris was second with 28-12-0, while Paul Lane lost several fish, but managed to make up his third place weight of 19-6-0.
Results: 1 Goddard 30-2-0, 2 Harris 28-12-0, 3 Lane 19-6-0, 4 Bayliss 17-4-0, 5 Loveridge 10-9-0, 6 Rees 8-14-0, 7 Shaw 3-9-0, 8 Richards 2-7-0, 9 Kennett 1-1-0, 10 Oakley 1-0-0.
