SWITCHING to feeder tactics paid dividends for Martin Elston as he won Malvern Anglers’ third Saturday scramble match on the River Avon at Cropthorne.
Heavy rain the previous day had added a few inches to the level of the river which resulted in many more fish being caught.
On a downstream peg with trees overhanging the river on both banks, Elston caught a number of small chub on float fished maggots in the fist half of the match.
After a quiet period, he then changed to feeder tactics to add a couple of chub over two pounds and a barbel of about five pounds to make up his winning weight of 13-6-0.
John Shaw managed to land three nice bream up to four pounds to make up a close second-placed weight of 11-9-0.
Dave Harris worked hard on light float tackle to accumulate mainly small fish for 3-14-0 which saw him finish third.
Results: 1 Elston 13-9-0, 2 Shaw 11-9-0, 3 Harris 3-14-0, 4 Wagstaff 2-14-0, 5 G Kennett 2-8-0, 6 J Kennett 1-9-0.
