EVIE Richards won her first ever UCI Mountain Bike World Cup under-23 women’s race with a sensational performance in Germany.
The young Malvern rider - three times a runner-up in world cup races - dominated over the climbs in Albstadt to secure her first win.
Starting in the front row, Richards saw her American rival Kate Courtney take an early lead over the opening loop section.
But as soon as the course reached the main circuit, Richards showed her skills, closing a seven second gap to have a lead of more than 20 seconds after one lap.
Despite suffering a flat tyre, the win never looked in doubt for Richards, who powered home in 1.23.17 - 52 seconds clear of Courtney. She also delivered the fastest lap of any female rider during the UCI World Cup.
Richards said: “I’ve had a crazy two weeks in Europe and I have now won my first World Cup, I am very lucky to have the support of British Cycling and Trek, I’m over the moon with how the season has begun.”
The win also allows Richards to wear the World Cup leaders shirt at the next race which will be held in Andorra on July 2.
