HOME pair Mike Amery and William Davies had to settle for second in VC Sevale’s time trial.

The duo were among 18 riders on the undulating 10-mile Chance Lane course and stopped the clock in a season’s best 22 minutes 47 seconds.

But the Worcester St John’s team of Simon Garret and Steve Clarke led the way winning in 21. 27.

VC Sevale’s Graham Browning and Malvern Cycle Sport’s Ryan Milne were the third team home, four seconds behind Amery and Davies.

Despite riding on standard road bikes Team Ford Eco Boost’s Nikki Juniper and Sophie Fennell rode strongly to finish in 23.53. Juniper recently had a broken collarbone pinned after a crash in the Tour of the Wolds.

Individual success went to Sevale’s star rider Jez Pile in 22.28, edging out Worcester’s Nathan Preece in 23.15.

Sevale’s next time trial is next Thursday on the 10-mile Severn Stoke course. Sign-on is from 6.30pm with the first rider off at 7pm.

l Malvern Joggers' scenic summer evening 10-kilometre race will be on Wednesday, June 14, at 7.30pm on Castlemorton Common.

The race headquarters and registration will be at Welland Primary School, Marlbank Road. The contest will be chip-timed and run over the usual route.

There are toilet, changing and shower facilities in the pavilion on the playing fields opposite the school.

Nearby car parking with marshals to direct the traffic is also provided.

Free vegetarian chilli will be provided for runners on production of their race number.

There will be a licensed bar as well as trophies and prizes for the race and age category winners plus a memento for all runners. Entry fees this year are £10 for affiliated runners and £12 for unaffiliated runners.
