FOURTEEN Malvern Triathlon Club members competed in three multi-sport events.

Nine tackled the tough Storm The Castle Duathlon in Ludlow, five entered Wombourne’s sprint triathlon and one went in the Chirk Triathlon, near Wiresam North Wales.

Storm The Castle, in its third year, is renowned for the lactic ladder and hilly 10k and 5k run and its 33k bike route designed to test all 318 competitors.

Keith Evans (2 hours 12 minutes 24 seconds) was first home for MTC and 17 place overall, followed by Cliff Berry (2:14:46) and Vikki Siversten (2:27:28) who was the first female in her age group and third female overall.

Then came Stephen Dick (2:35:04), Jim Hancox (2:37:14), Bill Adsett (2:42:05), Roy Hart (2:44:20) and Andy Rickard (2:49:26).

The Chirk saw Stew Powell compete in his first triathlon in six years.

He finished in a time of 1:11:08 after doing a 400m pool swim, a 23k bike ride with a steady climb up Glyn Ceiriog, and a 5k hilly run.

The event in Wombourne is a favourite first triathlon of the season for many with 224 competitors finishing the challenge.

It covered the same distance as the Chirk but over kinder terrain.

MTC competitors performed well with Wayne Gualter (1:13:07) crossing the line first, followed by Simon Angwin (1:20:09), Lorraine Brooks (1:24:35), Stuart Horsfall (1:26:38) and Clive Brooks and Louise Seeney both completing in (1:30:00).
