THE key stage three badminton boys are the first team from Ledbury's John Masefield High School to make it to a national final.

They will play at Milton Keynes in May after winning the county tournament and then the regional contest in Birmingham.

Representing Herefordshire for the third time in the regional stages the pupils tackled two singles and three doubles games against other schools.

Chad Warren started the tournament on the front foot by comfortably winning his singles rubber.

JJ Hobson and Max Williams stepped up to take their doubles followed by Sam Nicholls triumphing in his singles clash.

The boys relaxed in the doubles, eventually winning the match 4-1.

John Masefield were able to win their second encounter 4-1 to make the regional final.

Chad Warren was tested but not enough to stop his momentum as he won.

The first doubles pairing of Hobson and Williams were beaten before Nicholls faced a strong opponent but kept his nerve to play some fine badminton.

Warren and Williams combined for an excellent doubles win to book the Ledbury school's place at the nationals.
