THE Worcestershire Golf Club’s Jason Allies and Lee Whittall saw off Kenilworth’s Neil Chatwin and Robin Kooloven in the 36-hole Coronation Cup Open at the Malvern Wells course.

While the visitors’ 61 nett was one better after the better-ball round, Allies and Whittall’s 72 in the afternoon foursomes put them level on 134 overall and won the trophy on the back 18.

Dave Marshall and Steve Carter took third place on 138 ahead of Phil Birch and Mark Read on 140.5.

The best gross prize went to Peter Lupino and Steve Bradshaw with 141 four ahead of Andy McCabe and Tom Howells on 145.

Roger Brierly and Geoff Fox had the best afternoon round with 69.5 nett.

In the ladies’ weekend medal, two-handicapper Lucy Walton came in with 68 nett and Corinne Mills was second with 72.

Laura Speers won the June Medal and Division Two with 71.

Runner-up Jane Poynder finished on 72 with Tina Jukes third on 73.

Division One was led by Cathy Harris with 72 followed by June Jones and Diane Meakin on 73, while Division Three was headed by Julia Radley.

Harris won the Gripper Putting Cup with 26 putts.

Ten ladies entered the nine-hole stableford and Norma Pottinger won with 19 points.

Sharon Williams finished second with 18 and Pauline Taylor third with 16.

The men’s midweek stableford saw a win for Paul Thompson (handicap 28) with 41 points ahead of Terry Cox (21) on 40 and Michael Travis (20) on 37.

The Worcestershire’s match-play teams were in good form.

Read and vice-captain John Williams led the way at home to Newport.

Their victory was followed by those of Andy Dunster and Gary Eames, Whittall and Jerry Hibbert, Steve Homes and Mike Bolton and Howells and debutant Clive Minett in a 5-1 home win.

The Worcestershire also beat visitors The Herefordshire 6-0.

The mixed team achieved ties at Kidderminster and Worcester Golf and Country Club.

Winning combinations at Kidderminster were Elsie and Ralph Kelsall, Diane and Paul Meakin and Jenny and Colin Jones.

Joyce Duncan and Alan Smith secured a half for the 3-½-3½ tie.

The Meakins were also victorious at Worcester, where the other winners were Corinne and Nigel Mills, Duncan and Smith, Joan and Gordon Herbert and Jane Tromans and John Flanagan.

April and Andy Greene secured the half to tie the match 5½-5½.

Williams carded 40 points to lift the Senior Captain’s Trophy.

Euan McClelland edged out Nigel Teale and fourth-placed Martin Field with all on 38.

Dave Anderson was fifth and Paul Butler sixth, both on 37.

Barry Caswell’s 80 gross secured him the Gordon Emery Trophy and Les Facer was nearest the pin on the 15th.

The Worcestershire seniors won 4½-1½ at home to Evesham.

Facer and Cox won 6&5, Stan Jones and Martin Field 8&6, Andy Peet and Teale 6&5 and Clive Minett and Anderson 6&5.

Robin Marling and Mike Cawley halved, while Dave Wood and James Ferguson lost 2&1.
