SIX Malvern competitors tackled the Phoenix Sprint Triathlon at Ragley Hall in Alcester.

The Warwickshire race consisted of a 750-metre open-water swim followed by a 20-kilometre bike leg and a two-lap run.

Mark Turner and Maria Dineen, completing their first triathlons, both enjoyed the event and intend to do it again.

Drew Heath finished first for Malvern in one hour 31 minutes seven seconds with Lucy Poole the club’s top woman in 1.38.14.

Gulab Chauhan improved on his time for the event from last year and Tony Bennett also participated, but decided not to continue with the race after the swim.

Malvern members previously competed at two other events.

Bill Adsett, Janet Adsett, Matt Downes, Simon Angwin and Jayne Ackroyd represented the club at the Gloucester Sprint Triathlon.

The race consisted of a 400m pool swim, a 25km bike leg and 6km run.

Ackroyd finished ninth in her age group in her first triathlon, while Downes was second in his section.

Final club finishing positions were Downes, Bill Adsett, Angwin, Janet Adsett and Ackroyd.
