BRANSFORD Golf Club seniors’ new captain John Phillips began his year in office in fine style.

He led the club to a 4-2 success at South Herefordshire in strong winds and then won a stableford.

Phillips also took his team to victory in the annual captain and past-captain’s team match to mark the traditional drive-in, pipping Ian Hamilton’s outfit 153½-152½.

He will support the Worcestershire Parent and Carers Community charity with the captains’ match raising more than £120.

In the winter race to Bransford final, Phillips won the stableford with 36 points over Paul Edlin on count-back with Gerry Rebbeck scoring 34.

The race to Bransford winter champion was Trevor Atkinson (14) with 42.7 and Roy Williams was second on count-back on 39.9 with Alan Wallcroft.
