A FINE spring day greeted The Worcestershire ladies for their first cup competition of the season.

Despite overnight rain leaving little run on the ball, the Bronze Division’s Jenny Nions managed 35 stableford points to win the Len Phipps Trophy.

Three players from the Silver Division returned 33 to vie for the runner-up place.

Liz Evans took the honours on count-back from Mary Horrobin and June Jones.

Second in the Bronze Division was improving golfer Jenny Musson (28), ahead of Hazel Cartledge (27).

The Copper Division was won by long-standing member Doreen Hunt with 29, followed by Brenda Lowe (26) and Jane Quick (23).

A nine-hole stableford went to Kate Cross with 18 points from Betty Mitchell (15).

The last winter mixed competition saw another win for the irrepressible Charles and Isabel Carmichael, who claimed the day’s better-ball event with 40 points.

In doing so, they lifted the Winter Mixed Tankards for the best individual performances by a lady and a man in mixed competitions throughout the season.

Paul and Di Meakin again shone to take second place with 39, just ahead of Andrew and Sally Dare (38), Trevor and Brenda Cox (36) and Pete Hill and Jones (34).

Jones also achieved second place in the ladies’ standings for the tankards.
