LEDBURY youngster Harry Griffiths won Ross’ rescheduled third winter stableford.

With 79 men taking part, Griffiths’ success arrived in his first adult golf event ahead of his 12th birthday.

The John Masefield High School pupil has been one of many leading lights in Ross’ junior academy since becoming a member in 2013.

Under head professional Tim Hall and his assistants, Griffiths’ dedication has seen his game flourish.

Hard work at practice and coaching has led to an all-round improvement, boosting his technique over the winter.

This was on display in the stableford with 45 points, as his front nine holes included three pars and a birdie.

Griffiths looks forward to county coaching sessions as well as tournaments and junior opens in the under 14s age category across south Gloucestershire.

They form an order of merit table run by Gloucestershire Golf Union known as the Jeff Hall Trophy.

In the Division Two bid to claim six Barnfield Trophy final places, Griffiths was followed by Colin Price (45 points), Geoff Evans (43), Jo Snowball (42), Harold Beach (42) and Graham Weare (41).

The Division One qualifiers were Rod Buchan (40) ahead of Doug Duncanson (39), Nigel Yates, Nigel Montague and Geoff Robinson (all 38) and Michael Williams (37).

Simon Buck and Colin Bennion (39 each) and Kevin Powell and Charlie Walker (38 each) had already progressed.

Ross seniors’ round-robin team, led by captain Richard Topping, kept their hopes of a league title success alive with a 5½-2½ home victory over Sapey.
