JACKIE Styles scored the winner as Colwall and Malvern beat Bourton and Sherborne 2-1 in West Clubs Women’s League Severn Division One.

The fifth-placed hosts, playing a new formation of 3-5-2 due to unavailable defenders, beat the side one position above them in the table Colwall and Malvern attacked from the start, pressing high whenever possible and forcing the Cotswold visitors into mistakes.

They counter-attacked and had chances to take the lead but were unlucky not to score in a goalless first-half.

The second period brought the same attacking mentality from Colwall and Malvern and they turned possession over to win a short corner.

The ball fell to Kerry Tudge, who slotted home into the bottom corner.

Bourton were sparked into life by the opener and quickly equalised to produce an end-to-end finale to the game.

Colwall and Malvern enjoyed the upper hand and Melinda Bennett and Alicia Lawson broke up play to force an attack.

Chey West calmly found Tudge and she placed a superb ball into Styles at the back post to crown a fine team move with the winner.

Colwall and Malvern visit Bourton and Sherborne tomorrow at The Cotswold School (noon).

The seconds lost 5-1 at Lansdown thirds in Severn Division Three.

India Timmermans stood in as keeper due to captain Jenny Parkes being absent and made outstanding saves but Lansdown put many of their chances away. The visitors scored from a well-worked short corner with Naomi Heywood’s strong strike at the top of the ‘D’ finding the bottom corner to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Colwall and Malvern attacked more in the second-half through Erica Abbey and India Vance but a strong Lansdown side defended well and countered well to score more goals.
