Just a couple of ounces behind, the third-placed John Shaw had a couple of perch and bream to 5-15 but also lost a good fish while pouring out a cup of tea.
Weights for other places were close with catches of perch, skimmers and golden orfe.
Chris Loveridge managed 4-3, Ian Goddard 4-2, Dave Whittaker 3-9 and Graham Rees 2-1.
