MALVERN Mammoths Community Club aim to make the most of the interest generated from the NFL Super Bowl final.

Many people watched New England Patriots beat Seattle Seahawks 28-24 and they now have the opportunity to try the game for themselves.

Funded by the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, Mammoths have established a six-week project to teach and develop the sport.

In partnership with the British American Football Association (BAFA), Mammoths are welcoming boys and girls aged 11 to 18.

Following recruitment drives at Dyson Perrins Academy and The Chase School, more than 50 teenagers signed up.

The first session was at Dyson Perrins Academy and they will continue on Fridays from 3.30pm until 5.30pm until March 6.

Mammoths coach Rob Mallett said: “American football is the ultimate team sport due to the number of different offensive and defensive positions. Regardless of how fast, strong and tall you are or your catching ability, there will be a position suited to you on the field.

“People of any experience are welcome as the project will be played under a flag-football format, where the big impacts are removed with flag belts but all other aspects of the game remain.

“This allows members to learn the rules and techniques without having to worry about the high physicality of contact football.”

Disability players can get involved, while people can otherwise join in as referees and officials.

Mammoths hope to establish a long-term club through Sport England funding. For more details, call Mallett on 07443-491684 or visit their Facebook or Twitter page.
