RIPPLE Parish Hall Short Mat Bowls Club have grown in numbers over their first 10 months.

They were formed in late February last year after the hall’s management committee bought two second-hand mats and several sets of bowls.

Under the leadership of Monica Carter, Ripple have prospered and now play every Monday from 2pm until 4 pm and Tuesdays from 10am until noon.

Carter said: “We have 16 people who play regularly and a few more every now and again.

“However, we are still keen to recruit more members and open up other sessions during the week.

“Previous experience is not required. In fact, most of us playing now had never picked up a bowl prior to this opportunity.

“The first session is free and we supply all the equipment.

“Anybody who wants to try it need only bring a pair of flat rubber-soled shoes.”

Ripple have played friendlies with surrounding clubs and six more are arranged before mid-March, while they entered a team in a summer league.

Carter added: “Apart from the exercise, we have a good social gathering over a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit.

“We don’t mind if members simply wish to play socially or would like to enter competitions. We will accommodate everybody.”
