MIXED golf continues to thrive at The Worcestershire with fortnightly competitions during the winter months attracting good entries.

The latest event was a four-ball alliance, and a team comprising of Sally and Andrew Dare with Brenda and Trevor Cox were the winners with a score of 82 stableford points.

Diane and Paul Meakin with Gordon and Joan Herbert were just one point behind, with Alex Dunster, new member Adam Woods, Chris Price and Vivienne Marsden taking third place with 75.

Round three of the men’s winter better-ball was won by Tom Howells (handicap 2) and Brian Kendall (12) with 45 points.

Club Captain Roger Brierly (8) was once again in the mix, taking second place, with Andy Fleming (12) on 42 and edging out Mike Bothma (12) and Mike Day (17) on count-back.

A fine morning in Malvern Wells saw a good entry for the ladies’ 12-hole individual stableford.

Jen Bishop was the victor with 24 points, ahead of Vanessa Chesterton on 23 and Joan Herbert on 22.

Meanwhile, the ‘B’ team’s sterling efforts to join the ‘A’ side in the semi-finals of the Droitwich Shield inter-club knockout tournament finally came to an end.

They narrowly lost 2-1 against Rose Hill in a closely-fought contest.

While Jason Allies and Andy Dunster won their match 4&3, both Mark Read and Phil Birch, and Nick Smith and Lee Whittall lost on the 18th green.
