THE Worcestershire’s ‘A’ team started the new year as they finished the last on a positive note.

They beat Redditch ‘A’ 2-1 to reach the semi-finals of the inter-club team knockout for the Droitwich Shield.

Wins were recorded by Peter Lupino and David Marshall along with Steve Lane and Phil Shurmer, while Jamie Dunster and Allan Watts lost their contest.

Meanwhile, the ladies’ December three-ball alliance saw a sound win for Corinne Mills, Tina Jukes and April Wilding with 54 stableford points.

They were well clear of Lisa Digings, Jen Bishop and Sue Boardman on 47 and Davina Taylor, Jenny Nions and Maureen Riley on 45.

Liz Bird and Pat Rose shared first place in the 18-hole monthly league.

They each reached 109 points for their three best rounds with Cathy Harris third on 106.

Kate Cross won the nine-hole monthly league with 30 points, ahead of Betty Mitchell on 25.

A modest entry for the New Year’s Day four-ball alliance brought success for the team of Mike Hanna (handicap 12) Tom Howells (2), Josh Marshall (8) and Shaun Porritt (11).

They recorded 84 stableford points, one ahead of club captain Roger Brierly (8), Pat McIlroy (15), Neil Bogart (12) and Marshall (scratch) on 83.
